Linux (especially FC5) and entertainment

My main desktop is Linux Fedora Core 5 (FC5). For my daily activities (web programming and network administration), I feel much more comfortable to use it than using M$ Windows. But how about the entertainment? Entertainment is a place where many peoples think linux is suck. But not me. You wanna view mpeg, avi, vcd, dvd movies? You can use MPLAYER. Or you can use gstreamer's based player like totem. Another alternative is VLC (initially VideoLAN Client). But I have no lucks with VLC in FC5. Of course, you can use video player have been described to listen the music. But for special purpose music listening, there are a lot of many great application you can use. First, there is XMMS, a player with an interface similar to Winamp's (i prefer to say it as a clone). If you prefer using GTK2 as a based, you can try Beep Media Player (BMP). BMP is a fork of XMMS. But, because it's based on GTK2, it provides Gnome VFS support so you can play any file as you browse it on Nautilus (correct me if I'm wrong). But BMP is discontinued, and has a new brand BMPx. BMPx is the continuation of the XMMS-based BMP (sometimes referred to by people as "BMP classic") as a product, but it shares almost no code with it at all, and has been generally rewritten from the ground up with none of the old code in mind. Sadly, I don't like BMPx. It's still not mature enough. If you like Apple iTunes, try Rhythmbox. It support's DAAP Protocol so you can access and share the music on your LAN. For another alternative, use mono based Banshee. If you have problem accessing file via DAAP and you are using ndiswrapper wireless adapter, try to use the cable. What about gaming? One of game I play a lot is OpenTTD, a remake and improvement of Transport Tycoon Deluxe.
